About Strain Classifications:
Marijuana plants are classified into three major types: Sativa, Indica, and Hybrid. These classifications represent differences in the plant’s structure and chemical properties, and thus the type of high a user experiences. Within these three main strain classifications, we are presented with an astonishing array of creatively named strain varieties; each has unique properties that have been created through years of breeding and genetic manipulation.
To tailor your experience, you should know the basic differences between Cannabis Sativa and Cannabis Indica.
Sativa:
Sativa strains have a higher THC to CBD cannabinoid ratio. The effects are known to be uplifting, energetic, cerebral, and best suited for daytime use. Sativa strain morphology (or appearance) is distinguished as tall and loosely branched, with long, narrow, and lighter green leaves with a longer flowering cycle. Sativa strains originated in equatorial countries and thrive in warmer weather.
Indica:
Indica strains have a higher CBD to THC cannabinoid ratio. The effects are known to be relaxing and calming, and are often referred to as an “In-di-couch” experience best suited for the evening. Indica strain morphology is distinguished as short and bushy, with wide, fat, darker green leaves, and Indica plants have a shorter flowering cycle with higher yields. Indica strains originated in the Middle East, most likely in the Hindu Kush region near Afghanistan, and they thrive in cooler environments.
Hybrid:
Hybrids have evolved from cross-breeding Sativa and Indica strains to create Hybrid strains with varying levels of characteristics from each parent strain. Hybrids range along the spectrum of Indica and Sativa based on its inherited traits. The specific strain and batch will specify its percentages of Sativa and Indica characteristics, so you know what type of affects you may experience.
